Brand Personality

Image
I have noticed an unsettling trend in recent years regarding advertisement and marketing strategies of big companies, particularly fast food restaurants. Specifically, the fast food chain Wendy's. Within recent years, Wendy's went from straightforward advertising of their food to #relatable social media presence. An example is given below: They've taken a more edgy take on mascot personalities and its skyrocketed their popularity as a result. By adopting an online person, a corporation with the soul intent of serving food and making money has become someone the average person can relate to. People have even begun making fanart, as depicted below, to show their appreciation of the Wendy's mascot. In reality though, people are relating themselves to a corporate team making strategic actions on social media to influence what you  buy. This is just unsettling because society is becoming more open to brainwashing marketing to make you think, "This Wendy girl is al

Google patented "personality" robots

Image
Imagine this, A loved one passed away and you sorely miss them. You miss the sound of their voice. Now enter Google's pending personality patent, a downloadable and customizable service that can give a robot or even your computer any personality you desire. Now something as simple as your computer can 'adapt' a loved one's personality and even voice. Personally, this feels like a devaluation of this passed away loved one, but I also feel it may help people experience closure or even comfort. While sad to think of, I know people (like my mother) who took comfort in listening to audio files of passed away loved ones. Incorporating passed away loved ones into your daily routine or work routine on your computer could be a comfort. -------------- The patent for the google personality robot has already been filed and I feel it does it an injustice just to refer to it as a "missing a loved one" tool. This I feel is also what many will use it for though if it

Mannequin by HMLTD

Image
Mannequin  is a song I enjoyed even before attending Dr. Mintler's doubles and doppelgangers class, but I gained a new appreciation for it afterward. Cover for the HMLTD EP album which Mannequin  is on Beforehand I imagined it was a literal mannequin in the song with verses such as: " I found her in the parking lot By high-end fashion boutique bins And ever since We fell in love, I've had the urge To profit her a wedding ring But it's the strangest thing If she were made of flesh and bones And hair and skin and keratin Oh, is it such a sin? But plastic eyes, and plastic limbs And metal joints and fingertips Oh, she's a mannequin" Following expository writing, I've come to realize it may be a metaphor for a prostitute with various cosmetic surgeries. My reasoning is that to give her a wedding ring would imply she's more than a literal, motionless mannequin. I feel this line of thought helps explore the idea th

Who am I? The person or the avatar?

Which personality is more genuine-- the quiet and goofy Dylan or the also goofy , but a bit more outspoken Pickles? I don't know. While you typically hear people utter the phrases "keyboard warrior" and "you wouldn't say that in real life", I believe the real life persona is more genuine than online personas. Most people are completely different online and offline, but I'm inclined to say that the online persona, if coming in form of a troll or related role, is is a manifestation of frustration or stress in one's life rather than their "true colors". I have experience with this as I spent many years on an online forum meant for off topic discussion (so the topics varied widely and this allowed for more instances of trolls) and saw many trolls that I eventually  got to know later down the road. What I found was that they were often times nice people, but had serious stress in their life such as mental illness or abusive homes. My ROBLOX

Popeye's Chicken Sammich; what does it bring out in people?

Image
You've probably heard the craze over the Popeye's chicken sandwich, particularly the violent or comical instances birthed from the hype over the sandwich. If you have, you might be questioning society's priorities, or simply wondering, "Are these the true colors of normal people?" Some examples of what I mean are as follow: https://www.cnn.com/videos/us/2019/11/05/man-stabbed-over-popeyes-sandwhich-nr-vpx.cnn https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dtmBQ3SFTqo To go to such lengths for a sandwich just makes me wonder if their normal and everyday personalities are just farces, or if some deep witchcraft is running through their veins when they hear or read the words "Popeye's Chicken Sandwich". I just can't fathom why they would kill  someone or even just scrape their car for a chicken sandwich. I refuse to believe these are normal people; they must have had something going on in the moment that drove them crazy on top of all the craziness already g

Bundy and Bundy

Image
Ted Bundy has always been a figure that fascinated me. He's a serial killer, which is awful, but at the same time he functions as a family figure. Someone people look up to, admire, and even love . How he manages this is interesting, oftentimes being called by his interrogators as a "chameleon". This reptilian title comes from the fact that Bundy fit in throughout everywhere he went in society because he could adapt his personality to be pleasing to whoever was around him, and he was smart enough to play off of personalities to garner credibility and fool his community into enjoying his presence. He has an elaborate expressed and unexpressed self that I feel don't necessarily have even a static existence as a result of his chameleon-like traits. His expressed self was that of a family man or a good looking and charming man, but the individual characteristics of those changed. And on the inside, we cannot be sure his unexpressed self was a single entity due t

Cucumbers are like people

Image
Have you ever met someone who seemed spiteful? Rude? Angry at the world? I have, and I have also seen them transition into that sort of individual. A sad process and sometimes cannot be helped by you because you do not hold that sort of connection with them. That's what makes people like cucumbers. Everyone starts off plain and kind of sweet (I had a cucumber once, I think it tasted sweet?). They live this way until one day they're soaked in foul events, similar to how a cucumber is soaked in vinegar to eventually become a pickle. It's tragic and one would rather not see it occur, but what is one to do? You can't exactly just pull them out of the 'pickle jar' because this new personality (or attitude) will permeate from within them. At the same time you can't just leave them in the 'pickle jar' otherwise they just continue suffering and might even make cucumber into a pickle. This is the duality of humans as there is a wrong you feel the need
