Uncanny Doubles in JoJo's Bizarre Adventure

Image
In JoJo's Bizarre Adventure, characters occasionally have physical manifestations of their souls called stands . In a particular episode, one stand was a plain mannequin doll depicted as such: Upon the user's command, it could take the appearance of anyone it wanted. With that new form, it could also control the actions of the individual. I felt this was uncanny and tied heavily into Us , except in a reverse of roles. Now the clone could control the original copy. While it is one thing to be unable to exist as a unique identity and do what you wish as a Tether in Us , I feel it's more horrifying to have something clone you THEN take control of your actions. It's overall an interesting take on cloning as most of the time your actions still remain yours as an original copy of a clone, but in this case a copy now controls the original.

Anastasia and Doubles

An interesting public figure is that of Anastasia-- not the princess, her impostor. Following an execution of a royal Russian family, there remained one female who was believed to have survived. There are many stories, but the one I learned it by is that when the executioners were disposing of the bodies of the royal family, Anastasia was knocked out, but not killed by the conflict and she was dumped out a window and landed on her family's corpses to live. She would later claim the ties to the royal family and gain popularity. That may sound like a good ending, but in reality many believe she was a poser and simply was a look-alike playing off the tragic death of a princess. This ended up being true once DNA testing equipment was more sophisticated. I find that fascinating that someone could pull one over on an entire coun

What kind of burrito are you?

When one imagines doubles, you typically think of a mannequin or robot or genetic clone seeking world domination. Maybe an animal as seen through things similar to astrological signs. However, food is not what comes to mind when wondering, "Hm, I wonder what in the world could be a figurative double to myself?" Yet, despite this, I am a guacamole burrito. Results from  https://www.buzzfeed.com/lyapalater/answer-these-seven-random-questions-and-ill-rate There is a plethora of these types of quizzes floating around the internet, not just on Buzzfeed. This honestly confuses me, despite how entertaining I find them. From my experience, people often find doubles to be creepy or unwanted, yet people are taking or making quizzes that labels you as a food item. This makes me wonder, does the real uncanniness of doubles come from close resemblance of oneself? I'm inclined to say yes, because never have I felt disturbed by the results of the "what kind of X are you?&qu
